MacBook Pro Line Gets A Reboot

The MacBook Pro line gets a much needed update with the Intel Light Peak Port (aptly named Thunderbolt) which can transfer data at a blazing 10GB/s. A new HD webcam has also been added to the laptop, although FaceTime is no longer free and will now cost $1 from the Mac App Store.Battery life is still really good, even though it has taken a hit since the new MacBook Pros use the new Sandy Bridge i5 and i7 processors from Intel. They have an expected 7 hour battery life, down from the 10 hours from last years models.

The 13 inch models sport either a 2.3GHz or a 2.7 Ghz dual core 15 processor and either a 320GB or 500 GB hard drive. The 15 and 17 inch models have the 2.0GHz i7 or the 2.2 GHz i7 cores with 500 GB or 750 GB hard drive and AMD Radeon HD graphics.

I think this is a great update to a solid line of hardware, even though there aren’t any changes to the beautiful and slick form factor and configuration. I’m probably going to be picking one of these bad boys up once Mac OSX 10.7 rolls out sometime during the summer and ditch the HP Windows 7 laptop that I have.

  1. About time Apple got an upgrade. The value is certainly better but check out the Dell XPS line. It absolutely owns. I’ll post about this later.

    1. I’m probably gonna pick one up once the new school year rolls around since I’m sure for a hardware upgrade anyways. Still using 10.4.11 and an upgrade to 10.7 would be nice for me alongside the hardware updates
