Best Action/Adventure Game Nominees

  • Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (PS3)
  • Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii)
  • Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS)
  • Batman: Arkham City (PS3/XBOX360/PC)
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PS3/XBOX360/PC)
  • L.A. Noire (PS3/Xbox360/PC)
  • Okamiden (DS)

Winner: Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

The Legend of Zelda never fails to deliver a great adventure through Hyrule and Skyward Sword is no exception. Dungeon crawling feels fresh and the items you get are better utilized than many past games with the puzzles you are required to do to get past areas. Character development is not as strong as some other games, but it is a vast improvement on previous titles and makes you want to care about the relationship between Link and Zelda. Storytelling in this new adventure is amazing and of course the unique water painting art style makes it very pleasing to the eye.

Runner Up: Batman Arkham Asylum, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

Best Shooter Game Nominees

  • Gears of War 3 (XBOX360)
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (Wii/PS3/XBOX360/PC)
  • Battlefield 3 (PS3/XBOX360/WiiU/PC)
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PS3/XBOX360/PC)
  • Killzone 3 (PS3)
  • Goldeneye 007 Reloaded (PS3/Xbox360)
  • Yakuza 4 (PS3)

Winner: Gears of War 3

Gears of War 3 won out in this category for having a great storyline for a shooter, an awesome multiplayer and tons of gore definitely helps it along as well. Graphics look sharp and crisp, weapons feel and look solid and the game mechanics have never been more fluid. This definitely wins out over the yearly CoD releases for me, even if they run as smooth as butter.

Runner Up: Goldeneye 007 Reloaded, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Best Racing Game Nominees

  • Mario Kart 7 (3DS)
  • Forza Motorsport 4 (XBOX360)
  • Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)

Mario Kart 7 wins it for best racing game of 2011. Its a boatload of fun, its easy to get into, both for new players and veterans of the series. There are 32 courses that let you race against AI or players and never lets you down in hea. Items are as always in the series, a crazy addition to the game and throws a wrench in the plans of even the best racers out there and is an extremely fun and portable experience for all.
