Three of Nintendo’s biggest game franchises held the 3DS up high as the go-to portable console this year creating the much needed buzz for 3DS players.

Super Smash Bros. took the spotlight for 3DS’s E3. The transition to portable console makes it equivalent to Super Smash Bros. Melee style. This game alone would be the driver to get people to buy a 3DS (or XL) over the PS Vita. All in all, the 3DS could use a 4 player fighting game but I don’t think it’ll be available until late 2014 or early 2015.

The new Legend of Zelda game has an official name along with a release month. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds has a lot to live up to in becoming a sequel to Link to the Past but it looks impressive so far. It is set to be released sometime in November 2013.

More details of Pokemon X and Y were revealed. The new type Fairy is a welcome addition and definitely opens up to more Pokemon, typing combinations, moves and strategy. Whether or not previous generation Pokemon will transition to this new type like how Dark and Steel types were introduced remains unknown.

Look forward to a pretty good year for the 3DS.
