Review: Scoshe SolBat II

Final Verdict

I’ve now had the Scoshe SolBat II for a little while now and have put it through its paces and here’s my overall impression of the external battery pack. It is definitely something I will keep around in my arsenal until I find something better since I do a bit of commuting for school and the odd trip out of town. The SolBat II is something that will be useful if you have a USB charger for your handheld device, especially if you have a smartphone that eats through batteries for breakfast. It gives about two hours of charge time which is a good deal of juice if you are away from a power source for your handheld electronic device.

The build quality is decent enough and I don’t feel like it’ll fall apart if it gets banged up on the outside of my backpack but like anything else plastic, it can crack when put under enough pressure and is prone to scratches. Other than the overheating issue I had with my first unit when I was putting the SolBat II through tests, I haven’t had any other QC problems yet with the external battery. (Although I suspect the overheat was caused by drawing excessive amounts of power and being in direct sunlight at the same time) Overall it’s a great option to have as a backup power source when on the go and a plug isn’t accessible for your handheld device.

Build Quality: 7.5/10
Recharge Time: 6.0/10
Battery Life: 6.5/10
Form Factor/Design: 8.5/10
Overall: 7/10
