What’s Your Favourite Current Gen Games?

The current gen is not quite on it’s way out but you can’t deny that it’s definitely quite mature now. Some of my favourite titles this generation are the Uncharted series, Zelda Skyward Sword, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Arkham Asylum/City, Bioshock and Smash Bros Brawl. What are some of your favourite current gen titles?

  1. The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword (just might be in my top 3 favourite of all time now!). Metroid: Other M, No More Heroes (will eventually play No More Heroes 2). Super Smash Bros. Brawl (although I preferred Melee). Super Mario Galaxy/2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii/DS (are we allowed to note any handheld games and should we include 3DS/Vita as current gen or new gen handhelds?). Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (Battalion Wars 2 was a great launch title/very underrated). Muramasa: The Demon Blade(one of the prettiest games on ANY console-despite it being a Wii game-, of this gen), Sin and Punishment 2:Star Successor (underrated- great frantic gameplay, wacky everything/loads of fun).
There’s probably more but I’m not going to stare at the collection of them or try to remember them all, this was a pretty awesome generation all things considered, and there’s still a pile of games I’d like to get back into (for various reasons) and at least 3 more Wii games that I look forward to(Xenoblade, Last Story, and Pandora’s Tower) and hope to play before the end of the year. =)
Still wish Jump Superstars or Ultimate Jump Superstars was brought over from Japan to here, it was essentially Smash Bros. with sprite forms of some of the best characters from Shonen Jump manga franchises (i.e. One Piece, Dragonball, Naruto, Bleach, and many more) in a fighter.

Slightly off topic but, do you think there will be a BIG jump from how games look on next gen systems compared to the current powerhouses of this one. Will the jump be a smaller one graphically with more resources put on control/social/interaction/interfaces(i.e. something like the Wii-mote or the Wii-U tablet controller or PSN/X-Box Live user interfaces etc.), or will they try to make next gen consoles do more like smartphones/tvs/etc. seem to do now(i.e. connect with other media/apps/internet/dvd/music/etc.)?

  2. @ James sure handhelds can be included although the 3DS/Vita are considered the next generation. With regards to graphical specs, I don’t expect too much more than a slight bump in polygons and of course faster loading times. The PS3 takes quite a bit of time loading sometimes. I think they’re going in the direction of replacing our cable boxes and dvd/blurays in the next 10 years. It pretty much has for me as I watch blu rays and netflix off my PS3. It’s the infrastructure of social media & other apps & tv networks that need to be really set up to facilitate everything.

So the 3DS counts, then? In that case, Kid Icarus: Uprising is one of my top choices! It’s one of the best handheld games I’ve ever played. Forget handheld, it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played, period!

On the home console side of things, I still find myself playing and enjoying Wii games like Super Mario Galaxy (1 and 2), Twilight Princess, Excite Truck, Rune Factory Frontier, and a lot more. More recently, I’ve been playing Metroid Prime Trilogy, which is awesome. Oh, and Rhythm Heaven Fever is great as well.
