Fighting – PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (PS3/PS Vita)
Taking a page out of Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros., Sony’s Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is a free- for-all rumble for the ages. With characters like Fat Princess and Kratos, a great cast to fill the roster, this multiplayer battle on a cross-platform game is worth the wait.
Puzzle – Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (3DS)
On this outing on the 3DS for the Professpr, he solves puzzles in the city of Monte d’Or, where a man wearing the Mask of Chaos is wreaking havoc. With a hint system, a great story and cast, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask is a hit for your 3DS puzzle needs.
Platformer – Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS)
Paper Mario returns to full form in Paper Mario: Sticker Star on the 3DS. Mario has been sent on a quest to use stickers to defeat Bowser and his underlings for the upteenth time. Stickers are used in every part of the game to enhance gameplay and if that doesn’t get the game to stick to you, I don’t know what will? If Paper Mario is your thing, this 3DS iteration will not disappoint!
Best New Console – Wii U
The Wii U by far beat out the PS Vita for best new console. To be fair, it’s the only home console that was released in 2012 among the Big Three. Even with that point, it delivers on a ton of fun with multiplayer games that bring out the best (or worst) in us, a revolutionary new controller with a built-in touchscreen and face buttons, sticks and dual shoulders and of course HD. The Wii U also introduces Miiverse, a social media-esque forum for players to exchange tips and more! The Wii U is only in it’s infancy in terms of retail, but it definitely has a bright future ahead of itself if the software end can come up with fresh new ideas to use the assymetrical gameplay Nintendo has provided us with!
