3DS reaches North America on March 27

Nintendo’s 3DS will be released on Sunday, March 27, 2011 in North America. Looks like there’s going to be massive lineups for this device when it comes out.

The 3DS will come with a telescopic stylus and some built in software like a pedometer. There are going to be 5000 units touring the country for eight weeks to campaign and shore up more attention.

For North America, the colours available are Cosmo Black and Aqua Blue and will have a price tag of $249.99 USD. There’s probably going to be shortages for this device like we saw with the Wii and early on with the DS Lite as well. Nintendo says they hope to bring 30 games to the market by June which is great.

[Update — Jan, 20, 2011] Canadian pricing is at $249.99 CAD, which is the same as the American price that was announced yesterday

  1. Price is decent. It is comparable to the new gen PSP prices. However, if we actually have a shortage again, I can’t help but wonder if Nintendo does these things on purpose to hype up demand.

  2. Its at the same price point as the Wii when it came out 4 1/2 years ago. Theres supposed to be about 4 million units for launch and 400,000 is already tied down to Japan’s launch in just over a month. I’m hoping that there won’t be massive shortages six months into the cycle but I have a feeling that its going to be a wii-peat.
