Broken Fuse VG Blog 2011 Game of The Year Winners

Best Simulation Game Nominees

  • StarFox 64 3D (3DS)
  • Pilotwings Resort (3DS)
  • The Sims Medieval (PC/iOS)
  • Forza Motorsport 4 (XBOX360)
  • Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)
  • Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy (3DS)

Winner: Starfox 64 3D

StarFox 63 3D is a great simulation, and considering that it’s over a decade old, it has aged very well. I guess we have a soft spot for some of these titles because we grew up with it, but even after all these years, StarFox is still firing on all cylinders like it had just came out yesterday! Hell, it even convinced a friend of mine to break down and get a 3DS and a copy of the game a week after he played it on my 3DS! Controls are smooth as butter, uprezzed polygons, beautifully saturated graphics and fun gameplay make this our 2011 Simulator of the Year!

Runner Up: Pilotwings 3D, Forza Motorsport 4, Gran Turismo 5

Best Role-Playing Game Nominees

  • Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  • Dark Souls (PS3/XBOX360)
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PS3/XBOX360/PC)
  • Bastion (XBOX360/PC)
  • Solatorobo: Red the Hunter(DS)
  • Gods Eater Burst (PSP)
  • Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii)
  • Dragon Age II (PS3/Xbox360/PC)
  • Radiant Historia (DS)
  • Pokémon Black & White (DS)

Winner: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Skyrim is one ridiculously huge game! Even though we know games by Bethesda are buggy at times, this does not change the fact that Skyrim looks and plays beautifully. The game gives you great value for your money as it can give you upwards of 300 hours of gameplay! That’s basically paying a dollar for five hours of gaming! You simply can’t get that kind of bang for your buck with something like CoD! Skills and levelling are a great way to add value and they definitely hit the nail with this game! Just remember not to take an arrow to the knee and get some food and sleep when you play Skyrim, alright?

Runner Up: Dark Souls, Xenoblade Chronicles, Pokemon Black & White

Best Horror Game Nominees

  • Dead Space 2 (PS3/Xbox360/PC)
  • Resident Evil: Mercenaries (3DS)
  • Dead Island (PS3/Xbox360/PC)
  • F.E.A.R. 3 (PS3/Xbox360/PC)

Winner: Dead Space 2

Dead Space 2 is a pretty sturdy horror game set in space! Space horror is definitely a new frontier (pun intended) and is a hell of alot of fun! Who doesn’t like to shoot mutant space zombies to try to save their sanity and get out alive? It beat out Resident Evil Mercenaries on the 3DS which felt alot like a high score minigame to us and as much as we wanted to love Dead Island, it was buggy as hell. So there you have it, Dead Space 2 is our horror game of 2012!

Runner Up: Resident Evil: Mercenaries
