Broken Fuse VG Blog 2011 Game of The Year Winners

Best Indie Game Nominees

  • Bit.Trip Complete (Wii)
  • Bit.Trip Saga (3DS)
  • Minecraft (PC/iOS/Android)
  • Cave Story 3D (3DS)

Winner: Minecraft

Minecraft is such a unique indie experience! I know it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea cause Minecraft feels like a huge lego sandbox, but that’s what makes it so awesome too! People have made labyrinths, castles, huge statues and random objects and some pretty cool locales in the game, and of course running away from zombies at night is always nice!

Runner Up: Cave Story 3D

Best Music/Rhythm Game Nominees

  • Rhythm Heaven Wii (Wii)
  • Dance Central 2 (Xbox360)
  • Just Dance 3 (PS3/Xbox360/Wii)
  • Rocksmith (PS3/Xbox360/PC)

Winner: Rocksmith

Rocksmith was chosen by our team because it gives a fresh injection of innovation in the Music/Rhythm genre where you actually can learn to play the guitar instead of just strumming and pressing down a generic fret in Guitar Hero and Rock Band. This is definitely a fun way to play a video game and learn something new in a creative way too! Take note publishers, innovation is good!

Runner Up: Dance Central 2

Best Platformer Game Nominees

  • Kirby Returns To Dreamland (Wii)
  • Super Mario 3D Land (3DS)
  • LittleBigPlanet 2 (PS3)
  • Sonic Generations (PS3/Xbox360/3DS/PC)
  • Kirby Mass Attack (DS)
  • Cave Story 3D (3DS)
  • Catherine (PS3/Xbox360)

Winner: Super Mario 3D Land

The portly plumber in red always had a soft spot in our hearts and Super Mario 3D Land is no exception. Platforming is top notch in this game and getting every yellow flag and Big Coin is just as fun and challenging as ever. Great controls and graphics definitely helped to pave the way to make Super Mario 3D Land our 2011 Platformer of The Year!

Runner Up: LittleBigPlanet 2, Sonic Generations
