Winner: Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

This decision for Game of the Year came down as actually the hardest decision of all the categories! The staff of our site were locked in a heated debate on whether Skyward Sword or Skyrim should have won the title of our first Game of the Year. In the end Skyrim took an arrow to the knee and Skyward Sword came in from behind to steal the win with an epic Final Blow! The reason why I think that Zelda deserved Game of the Year for our site is it is a solidly built game, even though its nowhere near as lengthy as Skyrim’s massive 250-300+ hours. It’s graphics are very unique in this generation, where hyper-realistic images are the norm. The Monet-esque water colour graphics just ask to be admired at. The motion controls are amazing when they work and truly infuriating when they don’t co-operate on the odd occasion. The storytelling is top notch and I feel like this time, it was Nintendo’s best outing in story and character design as many of the people that reside in Skyloft and Hyrule had alot more character to them and you actually cared about them. Even Zelda had spunk and a playfulness to her that warmed me up to the game. Items were used more extensively to solve dungeon puzzles and the pre-dungeon areas were just as fun and frustrating as going through the dungeons themselves. So in conclusion, Skyward Sword is a deserving winner for our first ever Game Of The Year selections!

Runner Up: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Batman: Arkham City, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
