Nintendo wants to avoid gaming droughts with the 3DS and have a more balanced release schedule. With 8 games slated for release with the 3DS, and a couple more waiting in the hangars to be launched in due time, I think the first 6-12 months will be ok.
This is important because Nintendo does not want to have a drop in momentum with the software and hardware sales on the 3DS, which is definitely a high end handheld gaming device. I’m hoping Nintendo can print those games and assemble this gaming console fast enough to keep up with the demands that the 3DS will have in the coming months.
Linus Akesson reverse engineered an old electronic organ to an eight-bit synthesizer. The results are quite spectacular as he plays old classics from some legendary titles. Check out Legend of Zelda on the “Chipophone”! Continue reading
It looks like the new device that’s coming out from Nintendo later this year will have a 3-8 hour battery life which means that you will need to have an external source of power pretty close by to keep those juices flowing in the 3DS. Continue reading
The Razor Switchblade made its debut at CES yesterday. It is a mobile gaming platform that features customizable keys. It is absolutely amazing. Every key on the keyboard is an lcd and can be customized to meet your gaming needs. Even better is the Switchblade’s ability to recognize games and intelligently create a layout for you. The only issue might be the fact that it screen is too small for some games but make no mistake, if portable gaming were to ever take form, this is what it would look like. Continue reading
Nintendo had considered releasing a 3D Gameboy Advance but put the idea on hold until the 3DS. The reason that they put the idea on hold was that the LCD screens back in 2001 didn’t have the quality needed to make good quality 3D screens. Also Iwata let slip that the Gamecube was 3D capable as well too but it would have increased production costs by quite a bit. He also mentioned that they did have a 3D version of Luigi’s Mansion as well. At least Nintendo held off on this technology until now, where 3D screens are readily available and are of a good enough quality to pass their quality control.
During Steve Ballmer’s pre-show keynote address, he demonstrated the features of Avatar Kinect. The most important of which was the fact that Kinect sensors will now be able to track facial expressions. The video was actually quite impressive and shows the life-like features of the avatars. Avatar Kinect will also feature “conference rooms” where users can choose between 15 different settings to hold conversations with their friends. Pretty cool overall and best of all, it will be free for Xbox Gold members!
Today is the start of the Consumer Electronics Show 2011 (CES). For anyone interested in technology, the next 4 days will certainly be exciting ones. CES is a technology based trade show that started in 1967 and is held annually in Las Vegas. It has been the event where many major breakthroughs were announced and is one of the best events to get a peek at what is to come this year. Technologies like the VCR, NES, Blu-ray, and OLED were all first shown at CES. Continue reading
It seems that the new motion control add on for the XBox 360 causes some of the older models to RRoD. There doesn’t seem to be a specific thing with Kinect that seems to trigger the older models to RRoD, and it may even be caused by the extended hours used when playing Kinect or the extra horsepower that it uses that pushes it over the edge and causing massive overheating.
